Ludhiana: Khanna police on Monday arrested two drug peddlers after 10.3kg of charas was seized from them on Lalheri road in Khanna. The accused were identified as Nand Lal and Pintu Kumar Das of Slop Urban area in Gopal Ganj district of Bihar.
Giving details, Khanna DSP Deepak Rai said that the police have started a special campaign against drug trafficking and related misdemeanours. He added that during this campaign a police party from Khanna was present on Lalheri road, Khanna, and were conducting a check of vehicles and persons.
The police said that while checking, a police party saw two boys coming from Lalheri road side on foot with a bag. It added that after seeing the police party, they started retrieving their steps, but on suspicion the police party chased them and stopped them for checking. Police officials said that during questioning, they were identified as Nand Lal and Pintu Kumar. They added that DSP investigation, Khanna, was also present on the spot during their frisking.
The DSP said that on checking their bag the police seized 10.3 gm of charas, which was wrapped in 19 packets. He added that the accused were booked under Sections 20/61/85 of the NDPS Act at Khanna city-I police station and later arrested. He further added that the culprits were still being questioned and there was a possibility of some major disclosures.
Police officials stated that the accused might have brought the consignment from their native state and were to supply the same in Punjab. They added that police records were being scanned to check whether the duo had been booked in any previous such case in Khanna.
