Ludhiana: A 52-year-old man died when his tractor trolley collided with a truck on the national highway in Tibba area in the wee hours of Monday. While the tractor-trolley driver died on the spot, the truck driver managed to escape from there.
Some onlookers informed the police, which reached on the spot and took the driver to hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Following the accident a huge traffic jam was witnessed on the Ludhiana- Amritsar national highway.
The deceased has been identified as Sarabjit Singh (52) of Adampur village, Jalandhar district. He was taking a trolley full of sugarcane from Haripur village of Jalandhar district to Buddhewal. After crossing Jalandhar bypass when the trolley reached near Sant Kirpal Ruhani Mission Satsang Centre, it collided with a truck. The front of the trolley was completely damaged.
Jagtar Singh, brother of the deceased, said that, “My brother was a driver and is survived by two children. His wife had already died and Sarabjit was taking care of both his children. I came to know about the accident in early morning and reached Ludhiana. I came to know that the truck dragged the trolley for about 50m.”
The investigating officer from Tibba police station, ASI Jasveer Singh, said that the accused truck driver had managed to escape from there. However, the police have traced his employers in Fatehgarh Sahib district. The police have approached them, who have assured to produce the truck driver before the police soon.
Meanwhile, an FIR under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered against the accused in this regard.
