KANPUR: Seven people were killed and more than 24 were injured after four vehicles piled up near Rani Kheda village under the limits of Auras police station on Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Unnao on intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The accidnet took place at around 12am when a DCM truck carrying a consignment of iron pipes towards Lucknow overturned. Minutes after, a bus coming from Agra and heading towards with around 50 passengers onboard rammed it and turned turtle damaging the fencing erected on the divider. Later, two cars crashed into the bus.
The police, on being informed, reached the accident site and rushed the injured to hospital. Six persons died on the spot while one critically injured succumbed later during treatment at Trauma Centre of KGMU in Lucknow.
Station house officer, Auras, Sanjeev Yadav said at around 12 am the truck turned turtle and the pipes loaded on it spilled on the road. Soon, a bus heading towards Bihar from Agra lost control owing to the pipes scattered on road and hit the divider before crashing into the fencing near Rani Kheda village. Thereafter, two cars coming from behind, collided and rammed the accidental vehicles.
Yadav said that six persons died at the spot while one succumbed at the KGMU hospital. “Twenty others are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The truck driver fled the crime scene. The bus had 50 passengers and was going to Bihar,” SHO added.
