Vadodara: Elaborate security arrangements were made at the Godhra railway yard on Wednesday in wake of the anniversary of the Sabarmati Express carnage that took place on February 27, 2002.
A group led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists paid tributes to the carnage victims on Wednesday.
The VHP has been organizing a rally to pay tributes to the victims every year since 2003. The rally on Wednesday began from the Chanchad Chowk in Godhra town and reached the railway yard where S-5 and S-6 coaches of the ill-fated train have been kept.
A posse of policemen was posted at the coaches that have been kept at the yard. The VHP workers offered flowers at the coaches and raised slogans at the site. The S-6 coach was completely charred while S-5 was burnt partially.
The carnage had led 59 persons dead. It triggered widespread communal violence in the state.
