A Corona man died Thursday evening after officials said he was hit by a vehicle in Menifee while trying to help a dog in the road.
Abel Soto, 25, was hit by a vehicle at around 5:20 p.m. on Highway 74 between Menifee and Briggs roads, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Soto was driving east on Highway 74, exited his vehicle to assist a dog in the roadway, crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic and was hit.
The coroner’s office said Soto died at approximately 5:30 p.m. from major injures.
“The driver of the involved vehicle, a 19-year-old Hemet resident, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
The Sheriff’s Department said the driver of the vehicle that hit Soto was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and was cooperative during the investigation.
Highway 74 was closed after the crash and was later reopened at around 11:05 p.m. on Thursday.
