NEW DELHI: A family of 13 members from Kerala that came to Delhi to attend a wedding in Ghaziabad became a victim of the fire incident in a hotel in that killed 17 people on Tuesday morning.
Out of the 13 members trapped in the fire, a woman succumbed to her burns while 10 have been rescued. Two of them are yet to be traced. Jayasree, a woman from Cheranellore in Kochi was killed in the fire.
Somshekhar Menon‘s family had come to attend a wedding in Ghaziabad and were scheduled to head to Haridwar when tragedy struck.
While Somshekhar and his wife Sudha managed to climb down, five others were rescued by the firemen later. Three members of their family, including Sudhar‘s elderly mother, are still missing.
The family from in Kerala has been frantically trying to reach out to the NDRF and cops to locate the family members. Cops are now scanning through the floors to locate them.
Expressing his grief, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the fire in Karol Bagh. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims of tragic incident.”
Kerala MLA Hibi Eden met the chief minister and requested him to provide immediate help to those affected by the tragedy.
