THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: will ply in the city from next week. will roll out five electricity powered buses in five routes in the city on Monday.
The buses are included in the fleet of KSRTC, as part of the e-mobility policy of the state government.
city to Kaliyikkavila, Peroorkada to Nedumangad, Pothencode to Venjaramoodu, Thiruvananthapuram city to Kovalam and Technopark to Attingal are the routes on which the buses will be operated. The fare for electric buses will be similar to that of low-floor AC buses.
The electric buses require 0.8 unit electricity for covering a distance of one kilometre. The charging time for battery is about three to four hours and the bus can cover a distance of 300km at full charge. Simultaneously, five services will be launched in Kochi.
In addition to city routes, it is also proposed to operate electric buses between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam, via Alappuzha. The buses will leave from Thiruvananthapuram at 5.31am to reach Ernakulam at 11.36am. Similarly, another electric bus will depart from Ernakulam at 5.31am to reach Thiruvananthapuram at 11.36am.

KSRTC had conducted a trial run of electric buses in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode in June 2018, following which these buses were introduced in Sabarimala services. KSRTC decided to operate electric buses in the city, after the successful operation of these electric buses in Sabarimala service.
Meanwhile, a proposal to switch city-based KSRTC services to electric buses was mentioned in the state budget.
