Imphal: An Imphal on Wednesday sentenced a 49-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for life for murdering his in March 2014. The man, Pheiroijam Boy aka Rakeshroshan of the Sagolband area in Imphal West, was also fined Rs 10,000 by the court. Imphal West sessions judge Maibam Manojkumar pronounced the verdict.
The verdict came a day after the same court convicted Rakeshroshan for under Section 302 of the IPC.
Case dossiers state that Rakeshroshan had stabbed his 63-year-old aunt, Ph Kundarani Leima, with a kitchen knife while she was sleeping in her bed on the afternoon of March 8, 2014. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital here but the doctors declared that she had been brought dead.
Having completed the probe, the investigation officers submitted the chargesheet to the chief judicial magistrate of Imphal West. After completion of required procedures, the lower court then referred the matter to the sessions judge’s court.
A dozen prosecution witnesses were recorded and cross-examined by the sessions court during the trial. Having heard both sides, the court concluded that the prosecution has proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convict murdered his aunt. The court also asked the state authorities to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of the victim under the victims’ compensation scheme of the government.
