After midnight, a bouncer at Dukes Bar & Grill at 3221 Iowa Avenue stopped a man from entering the business because he avoided a search, Riverside police Lt. Jeff Spencer said.
Spencer described what happened next: The man took out a knife and stabbed the bouncer in the abdomen, then stabbed a second bouncer who tried to defuse the struggle, which had spilled into the bar’s parking lot. The second bouncer was stabbed in the back and neck. During the struggle, the suspect also pulled out a gun and shot the first bouncer in the leg. A second shot intended for the other bouncer missed.
Paramedics transported the two bouncers to a local hospital. Arriving officers injured the man during an arrest and he also was treated at a hospital, Spencer said.
The man was booked under suspicion of attempted murder.
