Ludhiana: A 55-year-old man was found murdered in the wee hours of Monday. The body of the man was found outside an abandoned labour quarter in the old vegetable market area here in Daresi area. The face and head of the man bore several blunt injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Satpal, who used to work with a vegetable vendor. In day time, he used to sell vegetables in the market and during the night he used to sleep in the same room. The police have found some empty bottles of liquor, some water in a container and empty glasses from inside the abandoned labour quarter. The police are suspecting that the man had drinks with someone in that room, who later killed him over some argument.
In the morning when some locality residents saw the body of Satpal they immediately sounded the police. The additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-1), Gurpreet Singh Sikand, said that Satpal had no family. He added that he used to work with a vegetable seller in the market in a vend and sleep in the room there during the night. Usually, after finishing up for the day he used to have drinks with some labourers in some nearby quarters.
“On Sunday night, Satpal was having drinks in that abandoned labour quarter, where he was later found murdered. The liquor bottle and empty glasses indicate that there were more people inside the vend. The police are suspecting the involvement of certain filling station workers. They are being questioned now,” added Sikand. The official added that, “The kind of injuries the body of Satpal has, like his face has been smashed and his head also has blunt injuries, it seems that either he was killed over rivalry or after some heated argument.”
The police said that Satpal was earlier living with his family at Hussainpur village. However, for the past 20 years he was living in the vegetable market. According to information, people residing in the area have never seen anyone form his family coming to meet him.
Meanwhile, the Daresi police have registered a case against unidentified persons under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
