PHAGWARA: Even as union road, surface and highways minister would be laying foundation stone of the elevated stretch of National Highway passing through town on Monday but current condition of the present stretch remains bad even as thousands of vehicles pass daily. The worst stretch is from Bus Stand and to and around Goal Chowk which has big potholes also.
“The on the stretch from bus stand to Goal Chowk is dangerously big and several two wheeler riders have fallen. Volume of traffic is very high and this condition of the road adds to the congestion. A few days back Traffic Police personnel put a barricade to save vehicles from ,” said Surjeet Singh whose office is near Goal Chowk.
A manhole on the service road along the stretch is not even covered and those have offices nearby got another barricade at the place. “This open manhole can lead to a fatal accident but it has not been covered after its earlier cover was damaged,” Surjeet Singh said.
“People pay very high toll tax for this stretch at Toll Plaza but condition of the stretch remains very bad. There is no proper drainage of water and rain even for a short time leads to inundation of the stretch and apart from causing huge convenience to people boarding or alighting the buses the potholes become even more dangerous,” said Manoj Lekhi, a local resident.
