PATNA: BJP state president Nityanand Rai said on Wednesday that Patna Sahib MP will not get party ticket to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections even if he takes a “U-turn”. Nityanand, however, kept the doors open for former CM and HAM(S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi to rejoin the NDA.
Asked for a comment on Shatrughan praising the laying of Patna metro rail project foundation by PM Narendra Modi, Nityanand said: “We want to thank Shatrughan Sinha Ji for appreciating the metro project and we welcome it.”
When asked whether the cinestar-turned-politician, who is popularly known as Shotgun, is taking a U-turn after showing open rebellion against his own party, Nityanand said: “People are wrong if they think that leaving the party and then returning to its fold will get them ticket? BJP gives election tickets based on its policies of commitment to the people and the country. But everyone is welcome to stand by PM Narendra Modi and our party president Amit Shah.”
Nityanand also welcomed Manjhi if he decides to come back to the NDA after quitting the RJD-led . “Though there have been no talks on this, but we will definitely talk to him if needed. I have always said he is welcome and he has always been respected by the BJP. Even when he was outside the NDA, we gave him the same respect.”
On being asked about the number of seats likely to be offered to Manjhi if he joins NDA, Nityanand said: “We respect him so much. Why won’t we give him seats?”
On being asked how would seats be allotted to Manjhi’s party as the NDA constituents in have already make decision (17 each to JD(U) and BJP and 6 to LJP), Nityanand said: “The seat distribution was done based on the allies in the NDA then. But if more people come, they will definitely get seats.”
Manjhi is apparently flexing muscles in the Grand Alliance for more seats to his party. He has demanded more parliamentary seats than Congress as well as RLSP to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
