GHAZIABAD: At least 12 parked cars were damaged after a fell on them on Monday in Indirapuram’s . No one got was injured.
The scaffolding came crashing down from an under-construction tower around 8.30pm after heavy rain earlier in the day.
“The structure became heavy because the cloth that was used for covering it got soaked in rain, making it tilt towards the ground. The winds put additional pressure on the scaffolding, which ultimately gave way and fell on cars parked below,” said Kapil Sighal, an executive member of the society’s apartments owners association (AOA).
Residents whose cars were damaged are furious and have demanded compensation. “We have called a meeting with the builder. We will make sure he compensates everyone,” said D K Maurya, president of the society’s AOA. Residents also expressed concern about their safety. “What if someone was present at the spot when the scaffolding fell? It could have proved fatal,” a resident said. Maurya said the AOA will ask the builder to stall the construction till he ensures safety of the residents.
