Mysuru: Five classes and 22 students, but just one guest teacher. This is how students of classes I to V at Ellachetti school under Gundlupet block education office of district are preparing for the annual examinations in the past one month.
Villagers complain that the students are facing lot of problems for the past one month as their regular teacher went on maternity leave and the department of public instruction didn’t appoint any new teacher in her place. However, block education officer (BEO), Gundlupet, Alati Somashekharaiah, said a teacher would be sent to the school from Thursday.
According to the villagers, the has classes only upto V. For higher classes, the students need to travel six kilometres.
“As there are no other school nearby, all local residents prefer this school,” said Kumar, a local resident.
“Till last month, there were two teachers. One of them was a guest teacher. Now the regular teacher went on maternity leave. How can a single teacher handle five classes together? What will students in other classes do that time? We are requesting for a teacher on deputation basis for the past one month. But authorities are not showing any interest,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources in DPI said that since it is an interior , no teacher wants to serve there. “It is not easy for the DPI to search for teachers. Still, a lot of ad hoc arrangements had been made. But locals are demanding full-time teacher as examinations are approaching,” said an officer.
“From Thursday, a teacher will start working in the school. We have deputed a teacher from a nearby school,” said BEO Alati Somashekharaiah.
“There is no truth in the allegation that there are no teachers in the school. A guest faculty is working,” he added.
